Beach Volleyball Cap Guide

Choose a beach volleyball cap around overhead sightlines, a secure fit and time on the sand. Compare the cap while looking up, turning and moving into position.

Keep the overhead view comfortable

A cap can feel different when you look up to track a high ball. Try your preferred brim in its normal position, look above you and turn your head. If the brim blocks more of your view than you like, compare a different position or silhouette rather than changing the way you naturally follow the ball.

A curved brim and a flat brim are both options to try. There is no single shape that fits every player. The useful question is whether your cap remains comfortable through the movements and viewing angles you use on court.

Find your Pro fit

Check the fit before the first rally

Measure your head and compare it with the Pro range of 55–61 cm. Then make a few comfortable changes of direction and look up again. The cap should not keep sliding towards your eyes. If it does, adjust the closure gradually and reassess the crown shape.

Try it with your usual sunglasses if you wear them. Check for pressure where the arms sit around your temples and ears. A secure cap and comfortable eyewear should work together; choosing a size range alone does not guarantee the combination will feel right.

Sand, salt and packing

Keep sand out of the sweatband where possible and avoid grinding it into the fabric when you put the cap away. Give a damp cap room to dry after your session. If the cap is exposed to salt water, follow the model's care guidance and remove residue gently rather than leaving it to build up.

Flow, Motion and Pulse have a water-repellent finish, but that does not make them waterproof. For beach sessions, choose by fit and care as well as appearance. A foldable Aero brim is a different packing option from a structured Flow or Pulse.

Pro Flow

For a defined beach-court look

55–61 cm

Flow in Pacific Sunset features in our beach volleyball series. The raised A-frame front and curved brim create a pronounced silhouette. Try that shape through an overhead sightline check and compare it with a lower-feeling crown.

Pro Pulse

For a classic curved-brim profile

55–61 cm

Pulse offers a familiar baseball outline with a curved visor. It is an alternative if that silhouette already works well for you. Flow and Pulse share water repellency and an inner pocket, but their crown shapes are different.

Pro Aero

For a flexible alternative

55–61 cm

Aero's soft crown and foldable brim offer another feel on the head and in your beach bag. It can be considered beyond running. Aero has no water-repellent finish or inner pocket; choose it for its construction and fit.

After your session

Follow the care label for your model. At Blackskies, our post-sport routine for Flow, Motion, Pulse and Aero is to rinse the cap with clean water and leave it to air dry. Let the sweatband dry completely before storage, support the cap’s normal shape and avoid direct heat.

For Focus and for other materials, check the model-specific guidance rather than assuming the same routine applies. Our cap care guide explains the differences across Pro, Originals and Family.

Should a beach volleyball cap be worn backwards?

That is a personal fit and sightline choice. Try both positions and check where the closure and brim sit. Wearing it backwards is not a universal solution and does not replace checking the size.

Can I use my tennis or padel cap on the beach?

Yes, if it feels comfortable during your beach session. Compare overhead visibility and fit with your sunglasses, then follow the care instructions for the model after exposure to sand or moisture.

Does water repellency mean the cap can stay wet in my bag?

No. Water repellency concerns the outer finish. The sweatband and other parts can still become damp, so allow the cap to dry before putting it away.

How do I choose the right size?

Measure your head circumference and compare it with the Pro range of 55–61 cm. Then check crown depth, brim position and pressure around the forehead. Use the size guide before ordering, particularly if your measurement falls outside the range.
