Cap Care Guide

From everyday Originals and matching Family caps to your next Pro session: keep the fabric fresh, protect the details and preserve the shape.

Gently wiping a black Blackskies Pro Flow cap with a soft cloth

The short answer

Keep your cap fresh with a routine that suits its fabric. For Originals and Family, use gentle spot cleaning and follow the care label. After sport, rinse Pro Flow, Motion, Pulse and Aero thoroughly inside and out with clean water and let them air dry. Simple care, ready for the next wear.

Everyday Originals

Originals: care for the details

Gentle care. Shape intact.

Trucker caps, snapbacks, 5-panels and bucket hats combine different fabrics and details. Start with the care label. Gently remove loose dust, then treat individual marks with a soft, lightly dampened cloth.

Support mesh panels from behind and avoid catching embroidery or patch edges. Keep moisture to a minimum around suede-look details. Originals should not be treated as if they all have the water-repellent finish of selected Pro models.

Family & kids

Family: matching caps, individual care

1 Originals cap + 1 Kids cap

A Family set contains an adult Originals cap and a kids cap in M or L. Clean each separately, following its material and care label. The smaller cap needs the same gentle treatment around its brim, mesh and patches.

After a busy day outdoors, check the inside sweatband as well as the outside. Remove soap residue with a clean, lightly dampened cloth and let both caps dry fully before putting them away. Children’s caps do not need stronger detergents.

Pro care: less effort after an active day

Flow, Motion and Pulse have dirt- and water-repellent outer finishes that make everyday surface cleaning easier. Fresh surface marks may need only a gentle wipe. Give the inside sweatband attention too, even when the crown looks clean.

Aero and Focus do not have a water-repellent finish. Water repellency and easy care are different properties: Aero is just as straightforward to rinse after sport.

Know which Pro cap you own

Flow, Motion and Pulse: a dirt- and water-repellent outer finish helps with everyday marks. Aero and Focus: no water-repellent finish. Check the care label for your model, and pay attention to the sweatband as well as the crown.

After running, padel or tennis

Keep your post-session routine simple. At Blackskies, we rinse Flow, Motion, Pulse and Aero thoroughly inside and out with clean water after sport, then leave them to air dry. Easy to clean, quick to dry and ready for your next active day.

Rinse the sweatband and outside, let the water drain and gently blot excess moisture. Leave the cap in its normal shape in a ventilated spot. Avoid twisting it, prolonged soaking and direct heat.

For sunscreen or stubborn marks, follow the care label and spot-clean with a suitable mild cleaner. Test a hidden area first and use a clean damp cloth to remove residue.

Gentle spot cleaning for Originals, Family and local marks

STEP 01

Start with loose dirt

Check the material and care label. Remove loose dust with a clean, soft dry cloth or a very soft brush. Work gently around embroidered patches, mesh and raised details. Avoid scraping the surface with a fingernail.

STEP 02

Test a hidden area

Mix a small amount of mild soap with lukewarm water. Dampen a soft cloth and wring it out well. Test an inconspicuous area first and check for colour transfer or a change in texture before cleaning a visible mark. Do not use bleach or aggressive stain removers.

STEP 03

Spot clean the mark

Dab and gently wipe the affected area instead of soaking the whole cap. Use as little moisture as needed. Support the crown while cleaning so you do not crush its shape, and avoid saturating the brim, seams or patch edges.

STEP 04

Remove residue and air dry

Use a second lightly dampened cloth to remove soap residue. Blot excess moisture with a clean towel without twisting the cap. Restore its normal shape and leave it to air dry in a ventilated place. Keep it away from radiators, hairdryers, tumble dryers and prolonged direct sunlight.

Originals details

Texture deserves a lighter touch

Fabric. Brim. Patch.

On Port styles, pay attention to the suede-look brim and raised patch. Keep moisture to a minimum, test an inconspicuous area first and avoid hard rubbing. Do not treat a textured brim like a smooth performance fabric.

For corduroy styles, work gently in the direction of the pile. Keep a structured crown supported while cleaning and never twist the cap to squeeze it dry.

Sweatbands and sweat marks

After sport, rinse the inside sweatband of Flow, Motion, Pulse and Aero as well as the outside. Let it dry fully before putting the cap into a closed bag. For Originals and Family, use a lightly dampened cloth and follow the material-specific care label.

Treat fresh sweat marks gently. If a mark persists, contact our team with the model name and a photo before trying a stronger cleaning product.

Water-repellent does not mean washable by machine

Water repellency describes the outer finish on Flow, Motion and Pulse. These caps still need gentle hand care. A brief rinse followed by air drying keeps the routine simple; machine washing, prolonged soaking and direct heat can affect the shape and details.

Ready for the next wear

Let it breathe

Air dry fully. Keep a damp cap out of a closed gym bag and away from direct heat.

Keep the shape

Restore the normal shape. Give the crown space and keep heavy items off the brim.

Store it dry

Put it away clean and fully dry. A Family set needs space for both caps.

Can I put my cap in a washing machine or dishwasher?

Do not use a washing machine or dishwasher. Movement, detergent and heat can affect the shape and details. Use gentle spot cleaning for Originals and Family, and the model-appropriate Pro routine described above. A manual water rinse does not make machine washing equivalent.

Can I dry my cap on a radiator?

No. Let it air dry naturally. Do not use a radiator, hairdryer, tumble dryer or iron to speed up the process.

Can I soak a white cap to remove stains?

Do not soak it. Start with a hidden-area test and gentle spot cleaning. White fabric is not a reason to use bleach or aggressive cleaning products.

Why are Flow, Motion and Pulse easy to clean?

Their dirt- and water-repellent outer finish helps with surface cleaning. After sport, rinse thoroughly inside and out with water and leave the cap to air dry. The same straightforward routine works for Aero. Treat sunscreen and stubborn marks separately with gentle spot cleaning.

Should I clean the crown and sweatband differently?

Give both attention. For Flow, Motion, Pulse and Aero, rinse inside and out after sport. For Originals and Family, spot-clean with a lightly dampened cloth, paying particular attention to the sweatband. Support textured brims and details, then let the cap dry fully.

Does water-repellent mean waterproof or safe to soak?

Water-repellent finishes help light surface moisture bead off. They do not make a cap waterproof. Keep hand cleaning brief, follow the care label and let the cap air dry instead of leaving it to soak.

How quickly will my Pro cap dry?

Flow, Motion, Pulse and Aero dry quickly after a rinse. Give them room to breathe in a ventilated spot, with their normal shape supported. Let the sweatband and seams dry fully before wearing or storing the cap.

How should I clean a matching Family cap set?

Clean the two caps individually. Each set combines an adult Originals cap with a kids cap in M or L; the set format does not add a special protective finish. Check each care label, use gentle spot cleaning, support the fabric and pay attention to the sweatband. Remove soap residue and air dry both caps fully before storing them.
