Running Cap Guide

A good running cap should feel comfortable at your pace. Compare soft construction, brim shape and adjustment before choosing a colour.

Start with bounce and pressure

A cap that feels fine while standing still may need a different adjustment once you start moving. Put it on in your normal position, then jog gently on the spot and look left and right. It should feel secure without pressure around the forehead. If you keep tightening it to stop movement, compare the crown shape as well as the circumference.

Short runs, longer runs and travel

For a short run close to home, your familiar comfortable shape may be all you need. For a longer outing, pay more attention to how the sweatband feels over time and whether the brim stays out of your preferred sightline. If you pack a cap for travel, Aero’s foldable brim is a concrete difference worth considering; that is not a general feature of every Pro line.

Pulse is worth considering if you already prefer a classic curved-brim baseball profile. Its shape is an alternative running option, not a reason to exclude it from your shortlist.

Wind and changing conditions

Use the closure to establish a secure fit before setting off. A cap that is already loose will not become more comfortable when conditions change. Flow, Motion and Pulse offer water repellency for light surface moisture; Aero and Focus do not. Choose your clothing for the conditions rather than relying on a cap to keep you dry throughout a wet run.

After your session

Keep your post-session routine simple. At Blackskies, we rinse Flow, Motion, Pulse and Aero thoroughly inside and out with clean water after sport, then leave them to air dry. Easy to clean, quick to dry and ready for your next active day.

Rinse the sweatband as well as the crown, gently blot excess water and leave the cap in its normal shape in a ventilated spot. Keep it out of a closed kit bag until fully dry.

Can I run in a normal baseball cap?

You can, provided the fit and comfort work for you. Consider how the fabric and sweatband feel during activity and how you will clean the cap afterwards. Pro is designed around active use; an Originals cap should still be cared for according to its own materials and label.

Should a running cap sit very tightly?

It should feel secure, not restrictive. Tightening a cap until it presses against your forehead is not a good solution to an unsuitable crown shape. Check the stated size range, adjust gradually and reassess the fit while moving.

Is a foldable brim useful for every runner?

It is useful if you want to pack your cap into a bag or prefer a softer brim. It is not automatically better for everyone: some runners prefer a more defined curved brim. Aero and Focus give you two different starting points for that comparison.

What if my head is outside the Pro size range?

The confirmed range is 55–61 cm. Do not rely on forcing the closure or stretching the cap to fit outside that range. Check the size guide and contact us with your measurement and the model you are considering.
